EVERETT, Wash. - Portland CC rebounded from two consecutive losses with a gritty 64-55 win over Wentachee Valley CC yesterday the Everett Crossover.
The Panthers are generally known for their quick pace and high scoring attack, but this time used a pesky defensive effort to overcome the Knights. Portland held WVCC to 33 percent shooting for the game, and just two makes from three point range.
The early action was all PCC, as the Panthers jumped out to a 12-2 lead. The Knights slowly grew into the game however, and crept in front a halftime by the score of 33-30.
The Panther defense took over in the second half, holding Wenatchee to a dismal 10 of 35 effort from the floor (29 percent) over the 20 minutes of action. The stingy D allowed PCC to edge in front, taking the lead for good at 53-51 on a Luke Jessup layup with 5:59 to play.
Portland closed out the game comfortably thanks to a 13-4 run to gain distance. Bas Corion contributed a clutch putback layup, and Jackson Leach made sure with a layup and two free throws.
Leach led the Panthers with 17 points, while Jessup showcased his versatility with 15 points and five rebounds.
