SPOKANE, Wash. - Emily Henderson erupted for a season best 29 points to lead Portland past Everett, 64-60, in overtime today at the Spokane Crossover.
The result avenged a narrow loss to the Trojans earlier in the season, with the Panthers making the needed clutch plays this time - especially in the extra period.
The two squads went toe-to-toe once again, as the lead changed hands six times - four times in the 4th quarter. Henderson scored six straight points at the end of regulation, and her last bucket gave PCC a 55-53 lead with 11 seconds remaining. After a foul by the Panthers on the rebound of an Everett miss, Maya Galdeira sank both free throws to send the game to overtime.
Henderson was the key to success in the extra period as well, scoring six points including the go ahead jumper to make the score 62-60 with 42 seconds to play. After Portland forced a turnover on the next possession, Henderson hit two free throws to seal the win. The Trojans had the ball with 20 seconds left, but were unable to score as time ran out.
In addition to Henderson's heroics, Eva LeBlanc scored nine points and owned the paint with 18 rebounds. Claudia Arellano came off the bench to score 15 crucial points.Â
