CHAMPIONS! Panthers Win NWAC South Title

PCC Defeats Clackamas 92-73

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Portland CC men's basketball claimed their 2nd region title in as many seasons after a 92-73 win at Clackamas tonight.

After the result, the Panthers finish the regular season with a 19-9 overall record and 12-4 in NWAC South play. Coach Cameron Mitchell has led PCC to the most wins for the program over a two year span (44).

Knowing the stakes, PCC came out a bit nervy in this one. The host Cougars shot 52 percent in the 1st half, and led by as many as eight points (24-16). With the team struggling score coach Mitchell turned to JahAllah Van, who provided a spark off the bench with eight straight points and 10 overall in the period. His second three pointer gave Portland a 32-31 lead, but Clackamas recovered and took a 38-35 lead into the locker rooms.

The rest and refocus of halftime must have worked for the Panthers, as they proceeded to score 16 straight points to start the 2nd half without an answer from CCC. Before the Cougars could blink, Portland had built a 51-38 lead which held up for the rest of the game. PCC finished the 2nd half with a 65 percent shooting performance, led by Jackson Leach who dropped 17 points in the period. Daniel James recovered from a scoreless first half to finish with 15 points.

Ball security also contributed to the final score, as PCC committed just six turnovers while Clackamas threw the ball away 22 times.

Leach ended the game with a team high 27 points and five assists. JahAllah Van was key to the win, contributing 16 points and three steals to the cause.

Portland will wait for news of their opponent at the NWAC Championship Tournament.
