Goals Aplenty on Sophomore Day

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland CC women's soccer celebrated the last home game for their sophomores with a 6-2 win over Rogue yesterday at the Rock Creek campus.

The setting of a crisp fall afternoon made for free flowing, attacking soccer and both teams took advantage.

The visiting Ospreys got on the board first, as Payton Griffin cuaght the PCC defense flat footed and curled a shot from 15 yards out.

The Panthers responded with three goals in a span of 10 minutes. Ema Streng headed home a corner kick from Kalei Rezentes in the 17th minute, Sydnee Ware scored from a tight angle in the 22nd, and Parker Lysen found the net with her head after scrum in six yard area (27th minute). The first half finished with PCC leading 3-1.

RCC got a boost early in the second half, with Danika Anderson cracking a shot from 25 yards out that took both teams by surprise. The effort squeezed past goalkeeper Evelyn Hollingsworth and drew the Ospreys within a single goal.

Once again, Portland made a strong response. Hailey Weisker scored her first goal of the season in the 53rd minute, hitting from 10 yards out. Less than two minutes later, Sydnee Ware got her second of the game with a looping shot from 18 yards out.

Ema Streng got her brace in the 67th minute, taking a pass from Jeslene Gonzales at the top of the box and placing her shot in the bottom corner.

Sophomores Kailey Carcamo Rodriguez, Evelyn Hollingsworth, Tiffany Rodriguez, Layne Montgomery, and Olivia Marquez were honored before the game.
