PORTLAND, Ore. - There is a renewed sense of excitement surrounding the Portland CC men's soccer program, and much of that energy can be traced to first-year head coach Hunter Hodgkins.

After back-to-back losing seasons, the Panthers have responded with a strong start under their new coaching staff. The team enters the second half of the season with an impressive 4-1-2 overall record and currently sits in second place.

The early success has brought a renewed sense of confidence to the program. While there is plenty of season still to be played, the Panthers have positioned themselves well heading into the final four regular season games.

"I am proud of the way our guys have been competing. We will continue to put in the hard work so we can maintain positive momentum heading into the second half of the season." said Coach Hodgkins.

The Panthers' early-season success has been fueled in part by the goal-scoring ability of freshman David Olvera. The former Glencoe High School star leads the team with five goals in his first collegiate season.

The scoring has been a true team effort, however. Following Olvera, nine other Panthers have found the back of the net, demonstrating the depth and balance of the offensive attack. Sophomore Evan Faulkner has added two goals, while sophomore Yahir Galindo leads the team in assists.

That balance has helped the Panthers put together one of their strongest starts in recent seasons. With multiple players contributing offensively and the team continuing to develop under Hodgkins and his staff, the Panthers appear to be finding their rhythm at an important point in the schedule.

The last portion of the season presents a new challenge but the Panthers enter it with momentum, confidence, and a growing belief in what this team can accomplish.

"I couldn't be more pleased with Coach Hunter and his staff," said Athletic Director Tony Broadous. "They have quickly made our program more competitive, disciplined and academically focused. We are excited to see what he can do as he gets more comfortable in the position."

For a program coming off consecutive losing seasons, the change has been evident. Under Hodgkins, the Panthers are competing with purpose, developing as a team and building excitement around the program.

And with the Panthers jelling at the right time, there is plenty of reason to be excited about what comes next.
