PORTLAND, Ore. - After suffering three losses in a row, Portland women's soccer has responded with a three game winning streak - the latest a 2-1 win over Clackamas yesterday at Rock Creek.
The scoring opportunities were limited for both teams, with PCC registering just seven shots compared to six for the visiting Cougars.
Jeslene Gonzalez put the Panthers in front in the 36th minute with what has become her calling card - a header goal from a corner kick.Â
A strong defensive performance was marred only by an equalizing goal from Emma Curtis of Clackamas in the 44th minute.Â
Both teams played it conservative in the second half, and the game looked to end in a fair draw. PCC won a corner kick in the final moments, which resulted in a foul by the Cougars. Ema Streng stepped up and converted the try from the spot to give the Panthers all three points.
It was the second goal for Streng in as many games as the highly touted forward returned from injury. Gonzalez is up to six goals for the season.
With the three straight victories, PCC has climbed to 4th place in the NWAC South Region (4-3-0, 12 points)
