RECENT RESULTS
After three games last week, the Panthers are 10-9 overall and 3-3 in NWAC South play.
WIN vs Chemeketa - 99-93
Amelia Echternkamp poured in a PCC record 49 points to lead the Panthers past Chemeketa in overtime inside the Cascade Gym in NWAC region play. The host Panthers needed every point to overcome a hot-shooting Storm team that battled to the final buzzer. Chemeketa was the team on the front foot in the 1st quarter. If fact, the visiting storm connected at a 59 percent clip for the entire first half which resulted in a 49-36 halftime lead. Portland tried to keep pace, but watched Chemeketa's lead balloon out to 19 points (41-22) before a rally cut the gap at the break. After a stalemate 3rd quarter, PCC slowly chipped away at the 12 point deficit in the 4th quarter. Lilly Walker led the charge with 14 points in the period, and the Panthers crashed the boards for 11 offensive rebounds leading directly to second chance points. In overtime, Echternkamp took over and scored 12 of PCC's 15 points in the frame. Chemeketa finally went cold, hitting just 3 of 9 attempts in the extra time. Walker made a clutch trey with 55 seconds left to put the Panthers up seven (98-91) with 55 seconds to play, and Chemeketa could only generate one field goal the rest of the way.
WIN at Southwestern Oregon - 73-67
Portland CC had to endure an overtime period for the second straight game, and came out on top again after defeating Southwestern Oregon. The Panthers had to shake off a sluggish start as the visitors fell behind 21-12 after one quarter of play. PCC turned up the defense in the second period, cutting the gap down to 32-29 by halftime. The second half saw Portland do just enough to force an overtime period. Tali Sanders hit a three pointer to give PCC the lead at 65-63 with 2:25 to play, but the Panthers would not score again. Bree Turner tied the game for SWOC with 1:27 to play, then the teams traded misses until the end of regulation. Lilly Walker led the way for PCC in extra time, scoring five points and grabbing four rebounds. PCC held the host Lakers to a single field goal over the five minutes of action.
LOSS vs Clackamas - 88-79
Portland CC endured their 3rd overtime game in a row, with this one resulting in a loss to Clackamas inside Cascade Gym. Looking at the stats, the game would favor the visiting Cougars enjoying a comfortable win. CCC put on a full court press that the Panthers had trouble with, forcing 35 turnovers that resulted in 32 points. Portland made up for the suspect ball handling with clutch shooting, as the home team shot 49 percent for the game and 46 percent from three point range. Each time the Cougars looked like they would take control with their pressure defense, Portland responded with a big make from distance or a drive and hand off inside the paint. A solid 4th quarter from PCC made the score 77-72 with 1:56 to play, but Clackamas closed the regulation time with five straight points to force another overtime period on the exhausted Panthers. The Cougars press forced four turnovers during the extra time, and PCC was unable to keep pace. With just seven players available, the Panthers had no other options to solve the CCC defense in the full court.
