RECENT RESULTS

After three games last week, the Panthers are 11-7 overall and 4-2 in NWAC South play.

WIN vs Chemeketa: 84-77
Portland CC held off a strong challenge from Chemeketa CC, winning 84-74 at Harold Williams Court. The visiting Storm enjoyed a strong start, and built an early 17-9 lead. PCC came back to tied the game at 20-20, then the two sides essentially played even-up basketball the rest of the half. The Panthers held a slim lead at the break, 38-37. PCC scored the first basket of the second half, and did not trail at any point in the period though their lead did not reach double figures until 2:24 to play. Jackson Leach scored 19 of his team high 25 points in the second half, and his 10 of 10 effort kept Chemeketa at arms length in the closing moments. The Storm found scoring opportunities, but their comeback attempt was thwarted by their struggles at the free throw line (11 of 26).

LOSS at Southwestern Oregon: 93-67
Very little went right for Portland CC men's basketball on the road at Southwestern Oregon during a 93-67 loss in NWAC South region play. The result was the first setback for the Panthers in league action after three straight wins. The host Lakers showed why they are the 3rd best three point shooting team in the NWAC, hitting 16 of 31 attempts for the game. Meanwhile, Portland managed just four makes on 18 tries. The Panthers looked to be in a competitive game early on, and after JahAllah Van drained a three pointer PCC led 18-15 with 10:17 on the clock. From that point, SWOC started shooting lights out and went on to lead 48-34 at halftime. The second half continued the trend, as the Lakers maintained their deadly accuracy from distance. Portland was unable to match the scoring, making just one three pointer in the half and shooting just 34 percent overall.

WIN vs Clackamas: 79-73
Two days after suffering a heavy loss, Portland rebounded with a win over Clackamas inside Cascade Gym. The teams were evenly matched for all 40 minutes, as the lead exchanged hands eight times with neither side leading by more than eight points. After a stalemate in the first half of play, the visiting Cougars edged ahead in the second half and led 58-50 with just over 10 minutes gone. A 9-0 run by PCC capped by a three pointer from Jamie McGrail erased the deficit and the fight was on. Down the stretch the Panthers were able to find Daniel James in the paint for some easy baskets. The post player scored 11 of his 25 points over the final seven minutes of action. On the other end, Portland was able to get enough stops to help build the slight advantage that CCC was not able to overcome.
