PORTLAND, Ore. - Expectations are high for the PCC Panthers men's basketball team heading into the 2025–26 season.

The standard has been set, as Portland is gunning for a 3rd NWAC South Region Championship in as many seasons. Head Coach Cameron Mitchell likes to instill a fast and aggressive style of play, and this version of Panther basketball looks to make life difficult for opponents.

"From top to bottom, this is the most talented group I've had at PCC," said Mitchell. "We have crafty guards, good shooting, and size on the inside."

The Panthers return four players from last year's title winning team, which finished 20–10 overall and 12–4 in region play.

Leading the charge is first-team All–South Region guard Jackson Leach, who averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game last season. Leach has taken his game to another level during the offseason. "Jackson had a great summer," said Mitchell. "He added fifteen pounds of muscle and improved his jump shot. I expect him to be one of the top players in the NWAC this season."

Vashon Hardges returns for his sophomore season after an impressive freshman campaign. A versatile forward known for his defense and energy, Hardges was among the top defenders in the NWAC in 2024–25. "Vashon is a coach's dream," said Mitchell. "He rebounds well, plays great on-ball defense, and never takes a play off."

Also returning are Charles Manigo and Aaron Liebelt, two players Coach Mitchell believes are poised for breakout seasons. "Charles and Aaron are two of the most improved players on our team," Mitchell noted. "They worked hard this summer and are ready to play big roles for us this season."

The Panthers' coaching staff also brought in a strong recruiting class led by guard Jace Vanvoorhis, the all time winningest player in Camas High School history and an all-region performer. Joining him is sharpshooter Jaxson Spafford, who starred at Putnam High School in Milwaukie and looks to be one of the top shooters in the NWAC.

"I'm really happy with the recruiting class we brought in," said Mitchell. "We added players from winning programs who bring a tough, hard nosed attitude to PCC."

Other newcomers include posts Bas Corion (The Netherlands) and Seth Johnson (Tigard HS), guard Mekhi Muhammad from nearby Grant High, high flying Maui native Casey Talana, and perimeter shooters Ryan Hanson (Skyview High, Vancouver), Zak Poole (Hood River HS, Hood River) and Luke Jessup (Lewis and Clark High, Spokane).

The Panthers open their season Friday, November 14, against Everett CC, and make their home debut Tuesday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m. versus Highline College, a Final Four finisher last season.
