PORTLAND, Ore. - First year head coach Chelsea Stocks earned her first win in charge at PCC, as the Panthers defeated Shoreline 88-63.
Portland and coach Stocks endured four losses to start the 2025-26 campaign, but used their best shooting performance of the season to pull away from the Dolphins.
Kamakila Waiwaiole led the way with a season high 29 points on 9 of 16 shooting. Bregan Ruhland added 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting, and the Panthers ended the game at 54 percent overall (31 of 57).
PCC took advantage of a slow start from the visitors, and jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the 1st quarter. Shoreline turned the tables for a good stretch at the end of the 1st and into the 2nd quarter, going on a 22-2 run to take a 28-21 lead. Taira Samiano and Milla Wangsanegara made five shots combined from behind the arc during the burst.
Portland responded thanks to five straight points from Emily Henderson, and eventually led by eight (43-35) at the break.Â
The advantage for PCC only grew in the 3rd quarter, with Waiwaiole dropping in 12 over the 10 minutes of play, with Eva LeBlanc adding seven points thanks to 3 of 3 at the free throw line.
The Panthers closed out the game with solid play in the 4th period, while Shoreline was unable to find the range. Big baskets from Norma Alcazar, Abbie Scharringhausen, and Claudia Arellano kept the Dolphins at bay.
