RECENT RESULTS
After one game last week, the Panthers are 12-10 overall and 5-4 in NWAC South play.
WIN vs Linn-Benton: 67-48
Portland CC gained a foothold in their quest for a playoff spot after defeating Linn-Benton 67-48 at Harold Williams Court. The result moved the Panthers into 4th place in the NWAC South standings at 5-4, slightly ahead of rivals Chemeketa at 4-4, and Linn-Benton who drop to 4-5. The Panthers were on the front foot from the opening tip, outscoring the Roadrunners 23-12 in the 1st quarter. The lead only grew through the 2nd quarter, and PCC took a 43-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. Linn-Benton mustered a better effort in the second half defensively, and held Portland to just two field goals in the 4th period. The margin was too great however, and Portland also remained stingy on the defensive end, holding LBCC to 30 percent shooting for the game. BettyAnn Wilson was active as usual, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Amelia Echternkamp (12), Lilly Walker (12), Kaylee Foster (10), and Tali Sanders (10) also scored double figures.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Panthers continue to be a solid rebounding team, ranking 7th in the NWAC at 41.2 per game. BettyAnn Wilson has much to do with that, as the point guard(!) averages 9.8 per game. Wilson also has three double-doubles, and one triple-double. The PCC women use the three point shot to great effect, making 7.9 per game which is 8th best in the NWAC. Amelia Echternkamp is carrying the load, averaging 35 minutes of court time per game. Her all-around game produces 15.4 points 3.5 rebounds per game. Her 4.2 assists per game is 7th best in the NWAC.
ABOUT MT. HOOD
The Saints are having one of those seasons where very little has gone as planned. Currently at 1-15 on the year, Mt. Hood has yet to win a NWAC South game. Injuries have piled up, and the team had to forfeit their latest game at Umpqua due to lack of healthy players. Alex Rowley (9.2 ppg) and Laci Pentzer (8.1 ppg) are solid performers, and Gabby Perez (7.7 ppg, 2.1 apg) is the main ball handler. PCC defeated Mt. Hood 77-52 earlier this season.
ABOUT LANE
The Titan women continue to be the standard bearer of the NWAC. The two-time defending NWAC Tournament champions have not missed a beat, currently undefeated at 22-0. They recently bested rival and #1 ranked Umpqua to move to the top of the NWAC South standings. Lane is hard to stop, with the team averaging 85.7 points per game, 2nd best in the NWAC. Emma McDonald is a player of the year candidate, averaging 17.0 points per game. Micah Wicks adds 15.2 points per game. Lane defeated PCC 76-61 earlier this season.
