RECENT RESULTS

After one game last week, the Panthers are 13-8 overall and 6-3 in NWAC South play.

WIN vs Linn-Benton: 88-55

Portland CC enjoyed a complete team win over Linn-Benton inside Cascade Gym, 88-55. The game started competitively, with a couple of lead changes and end-to-end action. The host Panthers held a small lead at 25-21 with 9:10 left in the 1st half, then proceeded to score 15 straight points without an answer from LBCC. The burst set the tone for the rest of the game, and a buzzer beating three pointer from Jackson Leach gave PCC a 20 point halftime lead (49-29). The Panther offense cooled off somewhat in the second half but the defense was continually pesky, holding the Roadrunners to 29 percent shooting in the period. PCC won the rebounding battle 52-37, holding Linn-Benton to one shot attempt on most possessions. Leach was the catalyst for success, scoring 18 points and passing for eight assists. Five other Panthers scored double figures, highlighted by a season high of 12 points from Peter Oguama.

CHRIS BENDLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The contest was designated as the Chris Bendle Memorial Game, honoring former player Chris Bendle who passed away suddenly in 2020. A scholarship fund in his memory continues to provide opportunities to the next generation of student-athletes at Portland

BY THE NUMBERS

The Panthers 's success has been in large part to their improving defense. PCC likes to pressure perimeter shooters and close down passing angles resulting in 8.3 steals per game, which is 6th best in the NWAC. Portland is holding opponents to 72.8 points per game at 40.8 percent shooting. Ranking in the NWAC top ten include: Jackson Leach - 4.8 apg (7th) and .900 ft% (4th), Daniel James - 10.3 rpg (5th) and .585 fg% (7th). The Panthers are very much in the hunt to repeat at NWAC South champions. At 6-3, PCC is just one game behind Clark for the top spot in the standings.

ABOUT MT. HOOD

The Saints have struggled to find success this season, sitting at 5-16 overall and 1-8 in NWAC South play. The results look grim, but MHCC has talent that can hurt opponents and five of their losses were by six points or less. Jalen Childs is a threat, averaging 16.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Aiden Dunne adds 10.9 points per game. PCC defeated Mt. Hood earlier this season, 80-57.

ABOUT LANE

The Titans are locked with Portland in 2nd place in the NWAC South standings at 6-3, and are 15-5 overall. The squad from Eugene puts up lots of points, averaging a NWAC best 93.5 per game. Lane likes to shoot from distance, averaging 29.8 attempts per game, while making 11.5 per game. They can hurt opponents in many ways, as evident by four players averaging double figures in scoring. Ben Thornbrue is leading the way at 21.9 per game. Portland held Lane to their lowest scoring output of the season in ther previous meeting, with the Panthers winning 75-66.
